How important are DVs in GSC actually?

I'm currently playing Pokemon Crystal Clear (which is just open world Pokemon Crystal) and just got the DV viewer in Cinnabar, and started getting into the rabbit hole of 2nd gen mechanics. I'm chaining like crazy to try get Pokemon with at least 10 on every DV. Am I losing my time?

Also, recommended teams / mons?

In GSC if you are just playing the game just like any main series Pokemon game it's something you never really need to think about.
Only matters if you are playing against other human players in competitive it's really going to make no difference against CPU for how dumb easy it is.

Now when it comes to fan hacks it depends on the difficulty curve the creator made for it.
I haven't played Crystal Clear so I wouldn't know if it was designed with difficulty in mind.
If it wasn't then you don't need to waste your time unless you are enjoying that aspect.
