The problem with the Ashime's formula, imo, is it rarely bothered to visit and/or expand upon areas in the games while showcasing the new Pokemon of that generation. One thing the Ashime excelled at was killing time, especially in between gyms. Gym leaders should've always gotten multi-part episodes, not just for more battle scenes, but also to give some depth to the gym leaders while giving them a chance to see them in action. The Ashime had far bigger problems than the TRio.
