Only the Tapus and UBs are meta in Doubles, the preferred format of official PVP.
And even then, they aren't necessary because we have the Paradoxes as the BST freaks, and other Terrain Setters (Indeedee, Rillaboom, Pinchurin and Galarian Weezing) that they'd much rather have in the meta, rather than tying such a powerful ability to inherently powerful Pokemon.

The trailers alluded that this game was gonna be a Pokemon Stadium-esque game. This game will probably focus more on the animation side. So roster cuts are pretty much on table. Your roster estimate is pretty reasonable.

Personally, I think the roster will somewhere be around 300. We already have references from past 3D games like Stadium, Colo, and Rev. It's a matter of upgrading the models.

That's the idea, dipshit, they specifically showed a battle with Mega Zard X and Hisuian Samurott VS Tera Water Dondozo and Aegislash.
It's very clear Champions was made in response to all the fuss over the Ashnime, where gimmicks got to coexist despite it being impossible in the games, especially the big blowout finale against Leon, where Ash was allowed to Mega, Z-Move AND Dynamax all in the same fight.

And it was pretty balanced thanks to the gimmicks requiring held items or not allowing Mega Fug if Fug has a Z-Crystal. Dynamax and Terastal not requiring them would cause conflicts unless they change it or add a ruling that you can't use 2 gimmicks at the same time.
