If XY were truly as bland and bad as you said it was, normalfags would have been disappointed that Pokemon's leap to 3D was of low quality, and declared it the THIRD death of Pokemon.
Instead, they were intrigued, and it put Pokemon back into the mainstream consciousness overseas, priming them to be interested in Pokemon GO.
XY saved Pokemon because it was just that good, regardless of whether or not it was unfinished, and also because normalfags don't care about postgame, so arguing about a "lack of postgame" is irrelevant.
