The characters also notice when moves are super effective so they might also notice the opposite.

In-universe, a Pokémon's Type is not something that's "assigned" to them, it's a direct aspect of the species. It affects how they interact with other Types and their Type can change as a result of other Pokémon.

I assume it's from a bit of testing.
They probably observe it, to see what kinds of moves it uses, as well as testing various moves themselves to account for weaknesses and resistances. Maybe behavioral analysis as well, like seeing how they interact with their environment.

Most of the pokedexes are pretty samey, so I’m glad they gave some flare here. Also adds a lot to personality to laventon that you don’t see otherwise.

They use a move and hear the super effective noise. It sounds like I’m bullshitting, but you can think of the noise as a thud or crash and it has more of an impact when it’s type effective.
