Came back to playing Pokemon in gen 9 after not playing it since gen 6 and, although these games look ugly as fuck and have a lot of rendering issues, I actually really enjoy them quite a lot.

The different paths, the new pokemon and even the characters were actually pretty fun to engage with and, although you can get overleved from battles, I think the spetacle of the battles themselves and how they are presented are very well made here. It can be made easy, but something like fighting the titan pokemon and the professor fight at the end show that pokemon can make the battles seen epic even if they're just the usual "click super effective move over and over".

Not to mention Area Zero being a really incredible concept which I kind of wish occupied a larger portion of the story instead of just being sort of an "epilogue", going through a barely explored place with weird and dangerous pokemon was a great idea and I'm kinda hoping we get some sort of spin-off game where we are one of the expedition scientists visiting and seeing paradox pokemon for the first time.
