Outside of the main story, there's little reasoto go to most other towns.

Restaurants, shops, secret battles, easter eggs. Most other cities just have like, one boutique at most.

isn't it the same in other games too? big cities like jubilife, castelia, celadon or hau'oli are usually packed with content, but with lumiose they really tried to push the scale even more than castelia, with all the explorable buildings and areas that made it feel like a big city

Other games at least give you reasons to revisit other cities, usually due to extra content, like trades, rematches, side quests, super bosses etc. From what I can gather, XY is 90% all in Lumiose with a few things scattered about, compared to other gens splitting it more evenly.

Some games are really bad at it, Gen 1 especially, but BW and especially B2W2 had a more decent distribution, even if it was still mostly concentrated in two cities. It doesn't help that Lumiose feels padded with four restaurants that all play the same and a bunch of identical cafes that lack unique assets aside from the one hiding Team Flare's base (which just tells me they simply decided not to on the rest for whatever reason). There's also a bunch of shops spread all over that make you either take a cab or navigate with the dreadful camera with zero motion easing. Basically, a lot of it feels like padding, which other games disguise a lot better.

i can walk into a pokemart anywhere and buy hyper potions.
sure moomoo milk heals more for how much it costs, but money is never an issue in any pokemon game. except gen 2 for some reason.

With the GTS down, I think the only repeatable content here (not including the poketch apps you get) are the lotto tickets lol. Veilstone or Hearthome are probably better for the game corner, dept store, and contests

No they don’t. Why would I revisit anywhere but Celadon in Kanto, Goldenrod in Johto, etc.?

Johto is one that doesn't have much. At least the remakes added trades, rematches and phone calls with Gym Leaders and a few more side quests and legendaries. Outside of that, all I can think of, is Kurt in Azalea Town.

Almost every other game is better at it though.

Of course it'll have a lot of content. But that's no excuse to not give players reasons to go back to other towns outside of "listening to music" or "I think I missed an item"

There is.

Nuvema for Pokédex
Accumula for trades and battles
Striaton for Dreamyard and the restaurant
Nacrene has some trades and a side quest
Castelia has too much to list
Nimbasa has multiple places to battle and a few side quests
Anville hasn't got much desu
Driftveil has markets and a few optional battles.
Mistralton actually doesn't have much either, that I can recall anyway.
Iccirus had that quiz thing and the grass patch above the gym
Opelucid has a few battles and quests
Damn and I'm barely done.
