Character-wise, he was pretty cool in Generations, and that jump he did when he got in the submarine was maximum gap moe. But the art style is fugly, I hate how other Maxie fans always use that one shot of his face where he looks like shit. I compared almost every dub and my favorites were German and French. I didn't really like English and Japanese.
Can't say Masters did a great job, it feels half-assed. Looks like Masters Maxie is based on his appearance from both OR and AS, but seems to have come from the AS universe. That's a shame because his character development in OR is what turned my crush into love, so this "character reset" was disappointing, especially compared to other villains who had already undergone development, even redemption before coming to Pasio (Lusamine). Him obtaining Groudon relatively effortlessly cheapens the point of his character imo. All of this makes for a cool Sync Pair/story, but it's an obvious excuse to recycle the same basic plot from RSE/ORAS, watered down for a gacha game. On the flip side, it's almost like a "spiritual remake" of Emerald's plot, and at least he's had character development.
I'd nitpick his 3D model but this post is already too long. Also, some of his expressions give me secondhand embarrassment.
I've already given my opinion about his voices, but tl;dr: his voice lines are hit-or-miss.
Lastly, in the English localization, he doesn't sound like his ORAS self. Still, I enjoy looking at his cute face every day and hearing his words of encouragement <3
I've never read Adventures/Special, but the fact that my Maxie's counterpart there is the same character as RSE Maxie's counterpart is unappealing. The art style making him look so ugly also puts me off. But I'll have to read it at some point.
