Ursaluna-Bloodmoon is Ubers and high viability rank in Doubles OU, VGC, and BSS.

This isn't that much of a problem as you might think.
>Start game on a new Switch profile
>Play until the Treasure Hunt starts (you are then invited to Kitakami)
>Use Pokemon Home to transfer in your living dex from your main profile to your new one
>Immediately clear Perrin's requirements to start the Bloodmoon hunt
>Take some photos in the the forest
>Catch Bloodmoon Ursaluna
Takes like three hours at most, and that's just from starting the game and getting through Mesagoza.

It's pretty good, singles shit doesn't matter.
How a good a Pokemon is right now has a lot to do with how much it threatens the current meta favorites like Calyrexs, Miraidon, etc.
Something like 60% of all teams are running a Calyrex of either variety, and Miraidon's tera-Fairy set is on like 24% of teams though there's probably a bunch of overlap.
I think even Hitmontop could be much more viable than people give it credit for due to it's access to wide guard, sucker punch, fake out, intimidate, etc. A way to stop spreads moves is priceless right now as Lunala will attest to.

The problem with Hitmontop is that it's only way to pivot requires the eject button. You want your Intimidate/Fake Out user to have U-Turn, Parting Shot, or Volt Switch. Top gets none, and while Wide Guard and Feint are nice substitutes, there are better Wide Guard users in Zamazenta and Lunala. It is the best Feint user at least. If they gave it U-Turn in Gen 10 it'd probably see comparable usage to Incin, honestly.

I agree, but both of those defensive mons are restricted and outside of them you're left with scarce few options that have the same utility set Hitmontop does.
I do agree that the inability to reposition hurts it greatly. I've had matches where it survives and stays on the field. While it generally has good enough matchups even in the face of 1hko, it does not like Indeedee at all. My team doesn't like to wrestle for terrain control.

Wide Guard has diminished utility outside of a restricted format. It's an okay counter to Psyspam teams, but dark types and turning off the terrain are better. Other than that it's a niche move; the scary spread moves you REALLY want to block are basically all restricted signature moves. Like, I see the Hitmontop vision. I used it back in 2012 and 2013, but it's just not quite good enough for a nat dex format currently. It's like Arcanine; either it needs a buff, or it's a seat warmer when you're waiting for Incin.

Yes, but we're in a double restricted format with the most used offensive mons having very dangerous spread moves. Which is why I think Hitmontop has a niche over running even Incineroar, which currently isn't seeing quite the same usage as it previously enjoyed being on only 1/3rd of teams right now.
In any other format I would say don't even bother, but stopping spread moves that are anywhere from 50% to 1hko threats to both your mons is crucial. Or even his access to sucker punch in dealing with CalyS is important, though I prefer using scarf-Urshifu ti outspeed by 1 point and guarantee KO through CalyS focus sash.

Bloodmoon is monumentally better than regular Ursaluna by virtue of being a special attacker.
Regular Ursaluna might have more raw power, but it does so by sacrificing a lot more and having more ways to play around it.
Bloodmoon has way better survivability thanks to it not relying on Guts and it having recovery options, despite its lower raw bulk.
Bloodmoon isn’t forced out as much since it can’t be Intimidated and can hit Ghost types.
Bloodmoon can run different items other than Flame Orb while still dealing tons of damage and isn’t deathly afraid of its item being removed the first time its on the field.

Ursaluna-Bloodmoon was the better choice in Singles Trick Room in the most Pure Pokemon format, Anything Goes, during DLC1. It peaked the ladder with a 69-6 records and 93.4 GXE. The conditions were just right for it to work extremely well. Namely, that Dusk Mane Necrozma and Ho-Oh were not available.

It's not evolution; lore-wise, it's just a very fucking old and ragged Ursaluna that swam through the sea from Hisui/Sinnoh. Apparently the soil in Kitakami is much richer in iron, so it became Steel-type while covering itself with mud from there.
I suppose in the next games it will be just an alternate form obtained via an item representing a clump of Kitakami mud, but for now it's a very specific and unique form that happened because one fucking bear survived travel through the sea.

not likely since ursaluna is supossed to be an extinct/dying specie due to its evolution item not existing anymore.
