Now obviously the pokemon are doing the leg work while the Trainer tends to bark orders from a safe distance so how do we make the trainer more involved in the fight without having them resort to the violence themselves?

I mean they damn sure tried with gimmicks like Mega Evolution, Z moves, Dynamax and Terralization especially in the anime where pokemon souldn't really control that influx of power without an anchor to keep them grounded in reality like their trainer but that's not quite good enough, just like it wasn't good neough that Diantha and her Gardevoir are so in tune with each other that they can fight without vocal commands, or at least they could if it was an opponent that wasn't that tough, Iris was given her dragon heart gimmick where that put her pokemon on the level of a mega evoution, the synchronization as in prototype mega ash greninja was also part of it with the gimmick that Ash would feel in combat what Greninja feels and they added his aura powers on top of that.

But it's still so unsatisfactory for players watching their guys fight their hearts out for them while yearning to do more to assist them. What should they do? What can they do?
