History lesson shithead: Nintendo got into the console market, keenly aware of the great gaming crash of 1980, thus focused on selling their system to both daddy and mummy and the little kiddies because the thing was expensive and people had less money to spend in 1983 (and were VERY wary of more gaming offerings that were dogshit - the origin of the "Nintendo seal of Quality" was an assurance the game was not defective or would damage the system it was played on). By the time Pokémon launched, it was releasing onto a dying system (the PS1 was released by the time RG launched) and deliberately aimed at a younger markey, because Tajiri was inspired by his childhood and a new item for the Game Boy. When it launched however, there were that many Game Boys in the wild able to be passed down to a child, or cheap enough to have been bought for them (I got my Game Boy in 1991, when I was 8 years old) alongside the game, that it met the perfect soil to take root and grow. As its success snowballed and demand for merch grew in Japan as well as the tv show and Nintendo starting to get into the act by making spin-offs and starting a trading card game, Nintendo ordered a sequel, knowing what they had was finite and precious at the same time looking to bring it to the west to see could its success be replicated, meaning tanother game aimed at kids to keep the ball rolling. They've been getting exactly what they've been ordering since taking a punt on Tajiri's idea and undoubtedly getting Mario Club feedback reports of Tajiri telling the adult playtesters to fuck off asking for the game to be made challenging for adults, it wasn't supposed to be. And if they'd wanted that to change at any stage, they had 29 years to do something about it. At this stage, they're perfect;y happy with what's happening.
