I spent the last 6 months in Japan on a cultural visa, and when you go to Pokémon Centers, as an example, it's mostly Japanese parents buying stuff for their kids, or Western adults buying things for themselves and going crazier than the Japanese kids. The juxtaposition is quite funny.
Come out to toy stores now I'm back in the west, and it's mostly adults roaming around for cards. The toys and plushes are often left on shelves for the most part and don't sell anywhere near as much over here. For example, I will always be able to find some kind of toy like this or plushies, but I will never be able to find any cards.
Likewise on the Pokémon Center's website, toys very rarely sell out, but cards do almost instantly. People here do not understand the difference in cultural demographic spending habits.
