Why were people acting like it wasn't a big deal from the dexcut?

maybe if it had the stats or typing to actually do anything well it'd see usage in any pvp format worth mentioning (and even in the unofficial NFE only format created specifically for NFEs like stantler, it's in the bottom tier of viability there and its direct upgrade, Girafarig, which has slightly different (but better) stats and a secondary typing, is top tier within that format so there's no reason to seriously use stantler there)
you can do anything but not everything, but if you can't do anything better than the competition then you might as well not be doing anything. versatility only matters if you can do anything well in the first place.

also your description applies to pretty much the entire normal type, which is defined by wide coverage and varied status moves

only reason anyone cares about stantler after the initial dexcut controversy is because it got an evo in PLA and the first generation it became usable in pvp it

oh wow it's completely outclassed by farigiraf, again, which is both better in its omgon singles tier (ZU) and sees actual serious use in VGC

to say nothing of stantler's history of being inferior to girafarig throughout the generations

If the dex cut was good for one thing, it was that it exposed so much hypocrisy among Pokemon fans. Wouldn't be surprised if had their way with it people would use it to permanently remove Pokemon that the community doesn't approve of.

Because Pokefags always use the same handful of Pokemon, it's the same reason they bitched at BW. Out of the 1025 Pokemon that exist they'll only care about the same 100-200 fully evolved powerful ones. They don't give a shit about Stantler when they can just use Gyarados, Snorlax, Ampharos, or Nidoking for the nth time.

even that's an over estimate. The average Pokefag only cares about 1/3 of KANTOOOOO, 1/5 of the gen they actually started with, and 1/5 of the newest gen, totaling to around maybe 50 or so fully evolved mons. and any Pokemon from Johto or Unova gets a likeability penalty.

speak for yourself, in every generation except 4 until gen 8 there were mostly good designs and thus i used plenty of new mons in every game
