I've come up with some expletives for my Mystery Dungeon fic but they don't map so closely to real-world expletives. Stuff like tauroshit and oh my Arceus doesn't work because they're too mealy-mouthed and it's too obvious what they "should" be saying instead.
Also my characters would just say bullshit since there's no reason broad taxonomies of Pokemon like "bull" or "cat" wouldn't exist.

I don't remember if it was explained, but he didn't do anything to prevent that infatuation from growing at least. That alone is pretty damning given Sabrina's situation and the fact he was her only emotional anchor in the world.

Swearing depends on the region. A common expletive used across several is 'Birds' or the local translation, given those fuckers are everywhere and do what they do. Hoennians occasionally use 'Depths' in a similar way.

There are some people that use 'Fuck' or 'Shit' conventionally, but that's actually Faller bullshit leaking through, and a distinct linguistic permutation from locales with a number of such people.

Met Sabrina as a young teen and she became fascinated by his anti-psychic properties. Working Title: Isekai'd Young Pokemon Master in an RSM Radical Red World
- crossover Evangelion x Pokemon
- Reversed Sexual Morality (RSM) World, 1 Male : 7 Female ratio. For both humans and Pokemon
- Isekai'd into Kanto as Shinji, sister Rei has actual personality. Father Gendo went off the deep end after mother Yui dies
- Gendo eventually is revealed as the ultra wormhole mafia leader, Giovanni only leads the Rockets
- Radical Red world, so will use some of the fanmade Megas and alternate Sevii Island forms
- Shinji picks up his Pokedex from Professor Samantha Oak and meets Gary Oak (Blue), Leaf Green, Asuka Langley, and Ash Ketchum
- Blue gets Squirtle, Green gets Bulbasaur, Asuka gets Charmander, Ash gets Pikachu
- Childhood friend Kensuke follows me on my journey with his camera and starts a poketube channel
- Misato has an Empoleon named PenPen

My slow ass finally read all of what you've posted so far.
I like it. Ian is funny enough, big cringe sometimes though, hoping his experience in chapter 6 gets his head screwed on straighter.
Your actual writing isn't terrible, though the pacing was a little strange, how long is this story meant to be all-in-all?
You said the bit at the start was going to come into play later on? I hope you give more depth to his relationship with Suzy at some point so I can care a little bit more? As it is right now it serves fine as a "this is why he didn't hop back into the Ultra Storm to maybe get back home", y'know other than the alpha which would've ryno'd him, but outside of that it feels somewhat "cheap" to me (I don't know a better word than cheap for what I mean, shallow maybe?)
Like it sucks that his gf of 4 years does that to him, but I have no idea what their relationship was actually like and as such no emotional connection to the betrayal. I only bring that up because you said it'll come back into play later on.
Anyway, I'm not a writer so you can call me a retard.
You can go ahead and post 10 more chapters though, like yesterday.

Bro I fucking wish. I busted my unemployed ass to get these six out. Thanks for reading, and I really appreciate the feedback. It's seriously most writers' (and my) dream to get well thought out feedback on their work. The "before world" is going to loom over him the longer he ignores things, so I hope I'm able to execute that emotional beat when it starts to hit (2-3 chapters away I think). It's a really funky situation though and pretty easy to mess up on my end. I only keep bringing up before world stuff here because I was completely flummoxed about how big a deal NTR is in here. It has been heard loud and clear. I'm glad you liked it! Now that we got Sawsbuck involved I get to do more consequential, balanced battles, which I don't think I'm too shabby at. I spent months brainstorming the setting, the factions, and the battles. So now I actually get to write about them.

Also, in Mastersex Arceus pretty much appeared in public so everyone knows what an Arceus is.
That said, that's Masters, and I honestly do not remember how it is like if taking just mainline into considering.
For that matter it's been a fucking long while too so I do not remember how it was like in the Arceus movie or in HGSS arc of Pokespe.

I don't remember the teacher's name, but you bet your sweep bupkiss its said in full. The author has an actual aversion to just writing the first name.

Considering the HGSS Sinjoh events are an out of the way secret and considering DPPT chronologically takes place after the events in Johto/Hoenn, it seems to imply that the Sinjoh events aren't entirely canon. That or Cynthia had her memories wiped immediately afterwards, which would still mean Arceus is unknown.

I think there's something to be said for the nutrients thing being a either new discovery (BoC) or an elitism thing (like the new direction for Cynthia story).
Eating the food is necessary for living every damn society knows that. But what kinds of food are really necessary? What's the right balance for a person? That's a far more recent discovery, and that's just for humans.
So Pokémon, with their widely different forms would obviously need different things to eat. But what's the best balance? How much of B12 or Pinap juice does a raticate need? No fucking way most trainers know.
However, a type specific clan like Blackthorn, or the hyper rich/elites would have a far better idea of the necessary balance for the Pokémon that they use. AND they wouldn't share it, why the fuck would they? It's part of why they're still in power/ haven't been wiped off the map.

Further I think it helps reinforce that the Pokemon world requires more thought to "master". Cultivation shit like the embedding was feels more like Myst was close to the right path vs the nutrients are something someone who can't remember/never was a nature would HAVE to learn. And I do mean learn and not intuit, by the time he'd figure out the right blend of herbs and spices Cynthia would already be running the whole fried chicken chain. I half-liked the embedding stuff because it reminded me of EV training in a way.
I think it was one touhoumon game that had a similar system. You gained generic EVs through fighting which you then distributed as you wanted in the stats you wanted.
What I didn't like though was the "it's a secret the adults keep away from the kids because reasons".
I can understand the reasons why it got removed thanks to that. It feels artificially limiting that way. Yet, it does bring about a good point as to how there could be kids running around with Champion level Pokemon just like that that way, and makes you wonder how exactly do Pokemon truly get stronger and how do those of the teen prodigies manage to reach such levels when there's grown-ups in the grind for twice or thrice as long but are weaklings.
Pokemon strength progression can be weird and really hard to quantify and justify, not helped by things like the anime, specially so the longer it went with Journeys being the ultimate culmination of that where Ash's final team who you can count with one hand the amount of times it battled and trained on-screen is somehow Champion level. And let's not even bring-up the fucking Riolu egg. Meanwhile Ash older teams which we saw train constantly and endlessly as they traveled through the regions weren't never able to make it.
It's why you people come-up with things like gravity training or nutrition and what-not, Pokemon training is so nebulous that by adding an extra ingredient like that you can justify why the MC team can progress so well and so fast unlike other people who're doing it through "normal methods".
Personally, I think it's better to not bring much attention to that type of stuff and just work it out through simple serial escalation. Falling too deep in the powerscaling hole is never a good thing.

Fair enough, EV training has been something I enjoyed having brought to the forefront in the X and Y. Sure you can hate the minigame but being able to specifically target growth areas was great. So explaining stuff like that in story is something I always look forward to. I guess the E-word stuff felt a bit weak in that regard. of course if it's just skill drills you run the risk of readers asking "why don't autistic 12 year olds all have Champion teams?"
And I'll agree with the power scaling avoidance. I'm reading through "the new normal" now and its another one where his meta knowledge makes him strong, along with gravity training. There's other gripes I've got with the story but good god. Can we stop pretending no one else can figure out gravity training without being from earth?

Actually there was that discussion a while back about why DBZ doesn't have a chunk of fanfiction. It's cause gravity training IS DBZ fanfiction.

Romance is a basic part of the human experience. It’s not mandatory for a fic to have it, but if done well, it can greatly enhance whatever themes the writer’s trying to convey. If there are any. Obviously most “Old person Isekais into younger person” can get dicey morally

I like attaching romance plots to character arcs. For my current project, the protag gets a love interest, changes while kind of ish being with her (but not quite) and when that (positively) ends, the next girl is interested in the person the protag has now become because of the character’s growth. Protag meanwhile has changed enough to see the true side of love interest 2.0 and why she’s Best Girl. Plot keeps them apart for a while, but plot also re-unites them when the time is right. Them hooking up becomes an integral part of their goal, however weird that sounds.

Got me thinking about what if:
Dawn already sent her team over to the separate world and uses a team that is like her original but "distorted" to be more like our real life animals.
So Empoleon, loses the steel type and starts to resemble more like an Emperor penguin. Staraptor is smaller and loses the hair spike.
The result is that her team is vastly weaker but it shows commitment to her vision and besides, she can just blast the opposing side away with Giratina.

Romance isn't the primary angle of my fic, but it's a very integral part overall as all five of my MCs take part in a romance across its length. One straight, one yuri, and one yaoi.

The MC and Deuteragonist are the primary but also slowest-burning romance; the girl decides on her feelings early on, but the boy is more concerned with the plot and doesn't know how to react to her bizarre flirting until their relationship starts to fully blossom in the back half of the story.

A third member of the party is also interested in the MC, and becomes deeply infatuated, but fairly quickly on realizes his feelings won't be reciprocated, which leads him on a new personal arc of learning to be happy with himself before looking for a partner, and he eventually meets someone much later on in the plot.

The other two members of the party bond fairly quickly, as one is the black sheep of the group who gets on poorly with the others, but their love interest matches their vibe easily, and they both actively pursue a deeper relationship and romance.

As far as the explicitness of the romance, it's meant to be a roughly PG-13 rating story, and the characters themselves are ~16, so it doesn't show sex outright, but there's implication to some degree that the ones actively pursuing their relationships are having it. Although at the climax of the story, the MC screams out (for reasons that make sense in context) that he wants to marry his love interest and have a lot of children with her.

In my setting Poke-human relationships aren't really a thing; there's legends that before humans became "human", they were originally a type of Pokemon that interbred with other species normally, but it fell out of cultural acceptance before most recorded history.

Honestly not sure how I feel about the premise/goal. Neat does fit with the world ending threat the games seem to like but, eh. You'd have to nail the whole "the villain's using almost Real Animals (TM) to fight for segregation" also kinda risky running a blow up planet plot line. Again. But now the hero is the bad guy.

Now that I think about it, different kinds of 'romantic relationships' actually have somewhat of a focus early in my story before they begin to move past them.

The main character learns that one of his close friends has romantic feelings for him when they go their separate ways at the end of the first chapter, and then realizes that he was the only person who wasn't aware of this as other people bring it up.

Another character struggles with the grief of her one sided love's death and how without the hope of wooing him she doesn't have any other goal in life.

Two important side characters are implied to be in a happy yuri relationship.

I actually intend to explore the MC's romance more in depth, and there is planned to be at least three other tragic romances explored in the future. I didn't intend for there to be so much romance in the story, it just ends up being a pretty convenient way to tie a lot of plot threads together.

Each region has their own slop.

Kanto and Hoenn have some of the most scientifically advanced studies of pokemon, including downright making their own manmade pokemon.

Johto and Sinnoh have a close relationship to god like legends that bless them. They are some of the few places with close ties to legendary pokemon who don't (in the modern day) threaten to ravage the land in some way or another.

Unova has funding. Commerce, diverse industries, world famous movies. They can afford to brute force their advancements with money, able to spend it on extravagant architecture and manmade academies in the middle of the ocean.

Kalos is the home of mega evolution. Even if they had nothing else, mega evolution produces some of the greatest heights ever achieved by pokemon.

Alola is small, but it rapidly integrates lots of powerful features of other regions ontop of its own unique features. Mega evolution, z-moves, sharing close ties to both Kanto and Unova. And they access to literal alien technologies.

Galar and Paldea have their own gimmicks, and they are the leaders in nutrition. Galar's patriotism and regional pride is unmatched, and Paldea has what is likely the most renowned academy in the world.

Orre's heroes will mug you without hesitation, and escalation means nothing there as they double battle jump you or while out a gun without provocation.

Basically by the plot being large enough to contain it. By the end of the introductory arc, two of the MCs haven't even been brought in yet, and only one of the romance sub-plots has begun with the deuteragonist deciding she's interested in the MC and beginning to flirt with him, which he hasn't properly reacted to yet because he's inexperienced with girls and doesn't know what to make of her comments.

The overall theme of the fic is the concept of growing up, and what that means to different people, so it felt natural to me to include love and relationships as part of that theme - the Pokémon themselves are still crucial to the plot, and the main cast's Pokémon I've been trying to give developed characters and arcs to, as well.

My MC is a relentless fangirl with an obvious crush but that's the extent of it. However, I'll have her be a shipfag and play playmaker for her companion and her rival.
Overall though, romance is super cringe 99% of the time because it inevitably ends up becoming a plot tumor. By having the romance be secondary here I'm trying to avoid that from happening.

Course I think that points to the difficulty of writing a competent opponent or foil WITHOUT making them hyper evil or end up just jobing.
Paul is a good example, a Supposedly competent asshole who slowly gets less asshole-ish. But he often gets written as a character to get "taught a lesson" not a rival capable of independent growth.

Maybe I'm just retarded, but this feels like big news to me. What are the implications here?

We already know that TMs can be crafted from natural resources gathered from pokemon. Does this mean that the mechanical differences between HMs and TMs are due to what is required to make them and not an intentional feature by the makers? Is the reason that older models of HMs could not be forgotten by pokemon is because the potency of the possibly mystical properties used to make them fundamentally altered the pokemon? Is the reason they were so rare because the rarity of the materials?

Why can't it be both? Why not have the mystical/difficult properties make the HM costly and harder to make, which makes the company double down on their rarity. Following that the sheer difference in energy between HM and TMs means that most Pokémon simply can't forget what they teach, as it's based on way higher tier magic bullshit than normal.
I know some people missed the Hm shit but thatnk god it's gone. HM slaves and "you can't fly and no one else can fly ever" didn't make for a convincing world.

I think the games might be better for HMs being removed, but I do feel like the system could have been refined for even better results instead of being completely cut. Flying on the back of your pokemon of choice is way cooler than flying on the back of whatever that games designated ridable flying pokemon is. Before we were exploring the world and discovering secrets thanks to the capabilities of our pokemon. Now we're just getting taxi permits.

As for the nature of HMs, they could be less product like TMs and more artisan items crafted via special techniques. Like with Kurt and apricorn balls, they required specialized training to create in the past. As for the Herba Mystica themselves they are probably not the only special rare material that could be used to make HMs.

Look at, for example, Lance. He's a Flying type specialist, and a good ice or rock type can almost completely sweep him. If he split his focus between Flying and a durable and resistant type, like Ground, Water, or even Dragon, he could have enough counters to his own counters.

It's why for what I'm working on, people focusing hard on a single type are basically limited to gym leaders or well established trainers, while those with more of a strategy are the up-and-coming crowd. Trapping moves, status hell, buff stacking, debuffing ... All those are more specialisms than just types. Even straight up blitzing can be a specialty, especially with recoil moves.

I don't remember what fanfic this was but the explanation given for why specialists are a thing is that specialists know their weakness and plan around it. Most specialists will have something to blindside a generalist's counter and then the generalist will be fighting a team of water types that the specialist knows back to front with his sole electric type knocked out. Generalists are more of a noob trap that only trainers who are built different can pull off.

The same way they do in any setting. Specialization always has the downside of being less flexible. You are unmatched at dealing with situations that you are fit to handle. But when you run into a situation that you aren't fit to handle then you hit a hard stop unless you specifically have prepared for that situation. The more specialized you are the greater your heights but the more specific the situation needs to be for you to reach those heights.

A generalist has greater room for error. They will never overcome a specialist who is in their perfect scenario. But they have a lot more scenarios where they can succeed and a lot more tools to alter the scenario in their favor.

An ice specialist is likely gonna stomp a generalist in the middle of a blizzard on a snowy mountain. But if they face the generalist in a tropical jungle, or a generalist who can set up sunny day, or one who happens to have multiple fire, fighting, and rock moves on their team, then there are a lot more scenarios where that specialization is no longer able to outpace variety.

That's why adventure groups rarely double up in skillsets. Two trap masters are gonna be bypassing twice the amount of traps, but a trap master and a berserker are gonna be able to solve twice as many kind of problems. Specialists thrive when they have other specialists to cover scenarios they can't handle.

Due to limited knowledge, resources, and access to pokemon in the ancient world people naturally specialized to survive in their environment and to do battle with their neighbors. and within those societies people formed clans or guilds that used certain types of pokemon and fulfilled certain roles in their societies. They would hoard all the knowledge they could about the specializations from the others to not lose ad advantage, then by the time of RBGY and RSE knowledge begins getting more dispersed and while people still specialize, you start to see people splash more one-off pokemon.
There's also the issue of caring for pokemon, it really can be a full time jobas they're another member of the house hold and have to be useful. So most of the time before the modern era like in real life you don't really see pokemon that are exclusively pets gain huge notability until recently. So for most of poke-history a person might have one or two low maintenance pokemon that can help them at their work. Only the wealthy could really afford to have big teams of pokemon
As the other Anon here says >>57887926 there are also factors like pokemon within the same type have similar diets, temperaments, and biological needs. As well as responding to certain types of knowledge that translate between pokemon of the same type that just aren't represented mechanically in the game.

At least one source has Silph Co credited as the first creator of the Master Ball. RSE may have relatively been around the same time within about a year, but it stands to reason that with the burned Mansion nearby there was a heavy emphasis on creating pokemon and a new facility was built to continue the research. Fossil revival was likely shared with Hoenn after the fact as we see less specialized facilities for it in Devon.

Ah. As an ancient level v*refag I can say that in many v*re settings, not just pokemon, it is peak nutrition. Mostly due to fetishist reasons, but depending on the kinks related it can either be so healthy that just consuming a single person can increase your height, muscle mass, and voluptuousness to the your natural peak, or so packed with excess nutrients that your body gains more weight than what was consumed. A lot of settings have it where some people straight up become amazonian monsters or straight up godlike beings due to regularly consuming others.

AKA, a lot of v*re settings have it be a hyperlane shortcut to cultivation. You're aura will never reach it's full potential if you aren't subsuming the aura of your lessers.

Those are just mons who learn it via level up. TMs have a wider selection.

I see it as these species are so autuned to aura that they naturally learn to weild it as part of their normal life cycle, while a lot more mons have the capacity to learn it if trained to do so.

How many members of a fic's cast can be clones before you find it egregious? "Real" clones in that they're more like offspring made using an individual's genes rather than a perfect copy of the original.

If the trainer's fighting above their badge class there's no sense sending out a 1 badge mon just so it can get bullied, so gym leaders either call the match prematurely(bad because you take the wind out of the newbie's sails) or ramp things up to keep the battle going.

That was more of a bonus after he fulfilled his real goal. His evil scheme is to kill off all the heroes, then save the day from a false flag attack he created so he could be the only hero.

His goal was to be a hero and his plan to become one was to fake it. It was only after he had his fun being a hero that he'd sell his tech to the masses so everybody could become a hero as a final bit of salt in the self projected wound (since his villain origin from his point of view was that he wasn't 'special').
