>>57879939>>57880065>the Pokemon world is Earth and all countries exist in it. The game is literally set in Kanto, a region of Japan. This is true. In Gen 1 as seen in the Pocket Monsters Illustrated Book, the Pokémon world then was closer to our real world with names to actual countries and other real life events mentioned. These have been phased out or even retconned as the series continued.
Arcanine and Poliwrath's Pokédex entries are great examples.
Arcanine's mentions China in Red/Green JP, Yellow, Stadium, and Gold and in recycled entries in Stadium 2, FireRed, and HeartGold. In Sun, it was referred to as "Eastern" and the entry recycled from Yellow in LGPE changed China to "the East". This change is also seen in the Japanese versions.
Poliwrath's mentions the Pacific Ocean in Gold, Ruby/Sapphire, Emerald, and Diamond/Pearl with recycled entries unchanged in Stadium 2, HeartGold, all of Gen 5, and X. The entry recycled from RS in ORAS changed Pacific Ocean to "the ocean". Surprisingly, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's recycled DP entry left the Pacific Ocean as is, but that's more indicative of the quality of BDSP's development more than any changes to recent rulings of Pokémon worldbuilding. This change is not seen in the Japanese versions, but there is another change in Poliwrath's entries that aren't in English: "Champion swimmers" seen in Gen 1 entries were referred to as "Olympic swimmers" which was recycled as far as Y. In LGPE, the recycled Yellow dex entry changed Olympic to "world-class".
