Episode 9 is a meta episode teaching us that the anime is fundamentally only an abstract version of the games, where the typing and level rules aren't set in stone. Also showed that Ash has a libido.
Episode 10 is Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village and immediately launches into catching Charmander and then Squirtle next.
This is immediately followed by Mystery at the Lighthouse.
Which then leads into Ash vs Lt. Surge
And then the entire St. Anne trilogy of the Rocket Plot, the capsizing, and the island of giant Pokemon
Which is followed up by Tentacool and Tentacruel and the Ghost of Maiden's peak
Then you get to Bye Bye Butterfree
Then the Sabrina Trilogy
This isn't to say things fall apart after this either but the pure concentrated fire that takes place during these 15 episodes is unmatched by never ending anime and certainly unmatched by the rest of the Pokemon anime.
