They're like gluttonous fish growing to fit their environment then they keep going until it can no longer support them, only for Nintendo to come along and build them a bigger pond. Diamond/pearl ran a bit slow but hgss and platinum were huge improvements, only for gen 5 to go so hard on the 3d environments that it struggled in spots if you didn't have a newer model. Gen 6 ran okay even on base model 3ds until you got into horde encounters or triple/rotation battles, then gen 7 came along struggling with double battles and crashing occasionally if you weren't running a new/xl model. Lgpe looked and ran great on switch, swsh and pla struggled a bit in the open areas and didn't even have exceptional graphics to show for it, bdsp was an outsourced clusterfuck, and sv barely ran despite everything but the pokemon's new textures looking ugly as sin. I expect plza will struggle on switch but run fine on switch 2, gen 10 will be reasonably ambitious but not optimized well enough to deliver on its potential, then they'll get overconfident in their understanding of how to develop for switch 2 so gen 11 or whatever remake or legends game comes next will be a barely playable shitshow.
