It's like, nigger, for most of the last 25 years, the mainstay of the hobby has been children. Back in 2019, 2015, 2010, 2005, 2000. it's been mostly children that buy cards when they get the chance. There was always stock on sale for retail prices on shelves and no hype. Who the fuck were scalpers going to profiteer from? Kids with $10 to their name?
It's only been since covid that it's changed into nostalgia driven adults treating it as a store of wealth and money laundering investments have scalpers been able to get a foothold in the hobby because there are desperate niggers willing to pay over the odds so that they can hold a product for long term investing.
