this is my favourite piece of pokemon trivia: did you know that, by technicalities, Kingdra is the rarest shiny pokemon?
in a prototype for a pokemon playset, the Pokemon Battle Dome, there is a pink kingdra figurine off to the left of one of the platforms as seen in picrel.
this Kingdra *does not exist* in any other versions of this toy, and not even in any other photos (at least as far as my knowledge goes.)

Prior to gen 4, which has the famous lv100 magikarp, the highest level fishing encounter was a fucking seaking in Yellow, at lv60.

In gen 1, with a bit of set up you can use counter to reflect the damage done by your own moves. With even more specific set up you can reflect moves used in the previous battle. Due to the way this works, you can also desync the game if you do this in a cartridge link battle.

In the gen 1 version of Cerulean Cave there are a few encounters that exceed level 60 on the last floor. Raichu, Parasect, Rydon, and Chansey can be found at over level 60 there and the absolute highest level mon in the game is a level 67 Ditto.

B1F was changed across all three major revisons (JP R/G, Eng R/B, and Yellow), including the encounter table. In RB it can only be found at 52, only in Yellow can it be found at 60.

What you are seeing are samples for wallpapers from Pokémon Card Game Online, a Japan only browser game that lasted 9 months from November 2009 to August 2010. Yes, those are gijinkas of the Gen 2 legendaries, they were assistants tied to the team of the player's allegiance.

If a pokemon with mold breaker tries to for example toxic a levitate mon under misty terrain, the move will fail because mold breaker will negate levitate and the target will be considered grounded for the duration of the move (thus affected by terrains)

Pursuit hitting a mom switching out ignores paralysis, confusion, infatuation, and every other effect that can make a move fail except for sleep, freeze and truant being on a slacking off turn, all of which will prevent pursuit from targeting the switching out mon no matter what, even if the users wakes up or thaws out on the same turn (it will just use normal pursuit)

There’s a bug in gen 3 where moves like thief if trick don’t unset the knocked off bit from a mon that gets an item through them. Because of this if a mon gets its item knocked off, gets a new one, switches out then switches back in, it will have no item again, since the knocked off bit disables its item on switch in.
This only happens in link battles and battle facility battles, because in regular gameplay item stealing effects fail if the user is knocked off, presumably to prevent the player from permanently losing items

The way gen 3 checks for a move being a sound move isn’t with a flag for some reason even though it uses these for other purposes, instead it has a hard coded list of moves that are considered sound moves, and every time a move is used it goes through this list to compare the moves in it to the current move, and if there’s a match it will apply sound move effects (which in gen 3 I think is only the fact that they’re blocked by soundproof)
The AI actually has its own separate list that it uses to discourage sound moves if you have soundproof, its list is meant to be identical to the one the battle mechanics use except it’s not, for sone reason Hyper Voice is missing from it. As a result the AI in gen 3 doesn’t know Hyper Voice is a sound move and will not discourage it against soundproof mons

In Ruby and Sapphire, if you trade over a Pokemon that knows Dive from another game, you can skip getting the HM. When you go over to Steven's house to get Beldum, there will be an additional line telling the player to take the HM. Sure enough, there will be another item ball on Steven's table.

Forgot to mention, in Emerald, you can't do this, as a Team Aqua grunt will block access to the Seafloor Cavern until you deal with Team Magma. (Pic's from a hack, but I assure you it's the same thing in vanilla Emerald)

In gen 3, trainer pokemon's natures are derived from their PID like usual, but instead of randomly generated PIDs like wild pokemon, it's made by "namehash"ing the names of the trainer and pokemon together and doing some bit math. It's also why male trainers tend to have male pokemon and vice versa as they bit shift in a value determined by trainer gender

In Rescue Team, if you try to release Latios, you get a special message after confirmation that tells you it's impossible to reobtain. Every other legendary except maybe latias will reappear in the dungeon you got them from if you release them, but since this is a special story recruit, you can't repeat the event you obtained them from.

The daycare in gen 1 games between Cerulean and Saffron, you know in gen 2 there's just a grandma with her granddaughter, the former babbles about spirits and gives you a Cleanse Tag, you get the gist.

What you don't know, if you only stand in the door and try to interact with it without entering, it says: "House for sale. Nobody lives here"
This is not included in the remakes.
