Objectively it's already weird it's not rock/ghost. Plus we keep getting denied rock/ghosts, even from things that have every right to be like cursola and runerigus. arguably even spiritomb could have been, though its ghost/dark status does at least make more sense than sableyes, in the same way that Flabebe and Comfey and Farfetch'd aren't grass, Dhelmise isn't steel, and Conkeldur is not Rock. Carrying or being anchored to an object does not make it a part of you. Sableye, meanwhile, has rocks for eyes, among other more centralized organs.
And the whole gimmick of mega-sable is one of the rocks in it, its central heart-area rock, get bigger and it can use them as an impenetrable shield, while at the same time losing a lot of speed because it's no longer a flightly little goblin man that sneaks up on people, it's lugging around a giant rock that was once part of its body but got so big so much extra rockiness-per-rock solidity it ripped loose and fell out of its otherwise ghostly body leaving a gaping hole in the chest.
It is literally just "sableye, but what if more rock"
Make it Rock/Ghost and I'll accept it.
Otherwise it's both missing the primary theme of the mon (a sneaky little cave thing that stalks you from the shadows while you're mining and plays tricks on you, i.e. kobalos/kobolds/goblins/Bergmännlein/tommyknockers/even gnomes before they were conflated with Nisse Puk with the pointy red hats) since it can't do that type of thing anymore the gem is too large and heavy AND it also doesn't lean into the new form's changes the way like MegaPinsir, MegaLopunny, MegaGyarados, MegaCharizard, or MegaAltaria do which say "hey this mon has changed to be about something slightly different, we're accentuating something that was there but very secondary and making that the star."
