What sort of crab bucket shithole did you grow up in? Where I was, having the most Game Boy accessories was a shortcut to the top of the social hierarchy. Everyone thought it was really cool if you had rare Pokemon cards, everyone wanted Pokemon shirts and baseball caps and board game and all the other useless Pokemon-branded junk that was popular at the time. The kids who only had one of the games looked up to the kids with two and begged their parents every time they went anywhere near somewhere that sold games The kids with two wanted to go round to Billy's house every weekend because he had Stadium. Billy idolized his older cousin from the next town over who taught him a cool glitch. I don't know why the people around you during your childhood were so bitter and joyless that they'd mock and bully someone for having more toys than they did, or why you grew up in the only place in the world where kids didn't adore all things Pokemon. I don't know why this state of affairs cemented itself into your mind so much that all these years later, you can't bring yourself to believe that some people actually had fun during Pokemon's early years. I feel sorry for you, I was more or less joking about people being too poor to afford more than one video game, I didn't even imagine that there were people out there sad and mentally impoverished enough to despise the very concept of kids immersing themselves in a new craze.

Elements from Red, Green and Blue, which were all already out in Japan, were used to make the international versions of Red and Blue.
Choosing either means you got parts of the real Blue. The only safe choices are Japanese Red or Green.
