>>57998484An attempt to course correct to being at least mildly closer to the coloration depicted in merchandise and the anime, because of this little thing called "brand consistency" they were trying to get a grip on now that they had better hardware compared to the GBC only allotting them three colors per mon, technically two since one of them was ALWAYS going to be black for the sake of an outline that popped against the battle screen.
Some palettes in the jump to GBA didn't quite work out as intended, like the Geodude line, because they also had to account for the GBA lacking a backlight (which like many other GBA games made them prioritize pop-out coloration, even if it didn't look quite right to the actual design,) and ultimately they were lazy twats who didn't bother fixing the palettes on the jump to DS which DID have a backlight.
