Yes, you have to pay to get more puzzles / yarn per day, but you can still download and play the game without paying any money at all—which is not the case, apparently, with the switch version.

Seems like there are 12 plushes by default but if you were to buy every expansion ($40 + tax) then the number goes up to 142. That’s not even 1/6 of all the pokemon.
You can just take that $40 and buy a real pokemon plush.

"Free" games that make you buy most of the content as an IAP do a bit better than outright paid games do. They still do poorly since mobile players just want free shit, but it's a kind of smart model if you really want to sell your game on phones.
