I've used Arbok in casual playthroughs and he's ok.
Intimidate, Glare and Coil are all pretty nice to have

I used Arbok in USUM. Sure, it sucked not getting any physical stab until level 63 or the Poison Jab TM in Victory Road, but it had Intimidate and Glare while being decently fast so it was still way better than my turbo shitmons Octillery and Lurantis. Those two were useless.

The fact that Golbat evolves via friendship suggests that it's actually a good pokemon at heart. Lots of asshole trainers use it because it looks intimidating.

This line never struck me as 'bad guy' pokemon but turns out that they're used by most Team Galactic members. I would argue that Bronzong is as representative of that team as Camerupt and Sharpedo are iconic to Aqua and Magma.

I've tried to use octillery before and its an awful time. Too squishy, too slow.
I was constantly surprised how many shitmons outspeed and ohko it even without type advantage. Maybe mine had dogshit ivs or something but despite its sweet movepool it just didn't keep up.

That's the only thing it has going for it. It normally got outsped and ohko'd, and it couldn't ohko most things if it did get to attack. It's probably better in the easier games but against USUM's ev-trained opponents it was just a useless burden for the last third of the game.
