Question for experienced time-wasters and shiny enthusiasts: what is the difference between save states and resetting as far as shiny hunting is concerned?

I am looking at playing Inclement Emerald for a bit and, according to the feature list, it has improved odds of shiny appearance to 1/1024. Those are a lot better than the average and so I was considering attempting a shiny-only dex, but I want to know how I should go about it before I waste 5 hours like a retard hunting for a starter.
