Most of them follow the same archetype of "mellow and/or outdoorsy". Brassius breaks the mold, but he's still comically boring.

Because they're all early to early mid-game and Grass has many weaknesses you already find in the early game, so it's just a brainless exercise for many players.

Erika is very popular in Japan.
Mallow is one of the more popular Alola characters, but she has lots of competition when it comes to lolis. Lillie is hard to beat.
Brassius is pretty memorable because of how much of a weirdo he is.

I'm surprised they haven't gone with a jungle/survival man character for a grass specialist yet. You know, the type of guy who could build a hut out in the middle of the wilderness out of mud and sticks.

If he was a gym leader the challenge would be you and your pokemon needing to gather materials to start a fire and build a mimi-shelter.

Depends on how you view it. You do get the "Rock Badge" from the Clawf titan, and Tyme used to be a Rock Gym leader before her sister took over and made it a Ghost Gym.

If it was written back in the '90s, they would've been the Triad without a doubt. If the RGB and Yellow arcs were written in the '10s, I don't think we would've gotten half the gym leaders being part of Team Rocket and an antagonistic Elite Four.
