Yeah I'm thinking this is Yokai cope.
Pokemon copies a shit ton from everyone but a generic "ultimate move" button in an RPG has been done for so long that if you think YW inspired it you need to play some more games.

I emulated Yokai Watch 1. Do 2 and 3 get much better? I finished 1 but the normal life setting and banal everyday chore quests were boring.

The entire Pokemon franchise copied Yokai Watch because it was profiting more around that time. The games, the anime, even the merch was GF/TPC desperately trying to catch up to the competition. This is why Gen 7 went through a complete design shift, and why you have all those leaked documents about TPC shitting their pants at Yokai's success.
Pokemon still hasn't recovered from Gen 7.
