>>58086223I'm still not a fan of the "singles vs doubles" larp. I wouldn't mind watching gen 8 doubes OU on occasion, but obviously in the long run I find 6v6 singles more interesting. Smogon doubles is extremely niche so it almost never comes up in any conversation, but pokeaim for instance has uploaded some doubles OU content in the past.

Aside, re: singles vs doubles gameplay. There aren't really different "archetypes" in doubles. In doubles, everything is really just "bulky offense", and whether you're using Trick Room or Tailwind or something else for speed control, the core gameplay isn't really changed at all.
So to me, doubles gets boring faster. But it can still occasionally be entertaining.
Doubles to me is like a minigame, singles is the main event, emphasis on 6v6 though, 3v3 is a joke. It's understandable why 4v4 is the preferred format for cartridge play, because it gets the games done fastest. Even 6v6 doubles would feel tedious on cartridge, let alone 6v6 singles. But, personally, for my fanfic simulator, I want to see all pokemon on the team drop dead. It's more interesting of a spectacle that way. It makes matches longer in terms of turn count, but more turns are more tolerable on simulator. Simulator is better for gameplay. Cartridge animations are fun to see once or twice, not for dozens or hundreds of battles. Like they say: VGC is an advertisement.
Tl;dr. 6v6 and especially 6v6 singles are more interesting to me and better suited for simulator play.
4v4 doubles is best-suited for cartridge play. But I'm not as interested in cartridge play as I was when I was 8 years old. It's fun to see the new animations once or twice, it's not fun to sit through dozens or hundreds of times, which is what VGC manchildren unironically do.
