Pokemon ruined my life. I couldn't help but compare the mundane and dismal state of my own life to the unbridled freedom and adventure which the child characters in the show experience.

Especially the first season of the anime when everything still felt contained and like exploring a brand new world.. i dont mind my life but I'll never explore a whimsical region like kanto with brock and misty and my companion pikachu and that makes my heart ache. for me there was a time in my life where i was completely and utterly emersed in pokemon diamond. even with not much to do in the endgame, as a kid it felt like i was living in the pokemon world. the effect was further amplified by diamond and pearl's day/night cycle that scaled with the real world time. night in real life became night in the game too, which changed the music to nighttime themed and all the in-game houses had their interior lights turned on.
