It's the same as every other generational gimmick (because that's what they are, gen 4's gimmick).
They're prevalent in their introductory gen and either disappear or become sidelined in later ones.

Actually, that must be the only case that doesn't bothers me, because Sneasler is my favorite Pokémon and I think the design looks feminine, so I like that the female has a long feather.

Honestly, I wish they would retcon the majority of gender differences from gen 4.
None of the gens 1-3 mons that were retconned to have them look good, and even most of the ones from gen 4 look bad.
It's fine when the mon is designed around the difference like Hippowdon, Combee, and the ones from gen 5 onward, but ones like Pikachu and Wobbuffet just ruin half of the species.

It’s weird that gen 4 and only for gen 4 only they wanted to do a lot of subtle gender forms for gens 1-4 that are still around to this day but by gen 5 they just fully stopped doing that and only made gender forms for a small handful of new pokemon per game that would have way more differences. One weird outlier is Eevee suddenly getting a new gender form for gen 7/8. It’s probably annoying for collectors because I just realized that Ursaring had a gender difference in the current year, and only last year I realized Ludicolo had one. There’s seemingly not a lot of rhyme or reason into what pokemon got the gender form, how good or different they were, and especially looking at the unused gender forms.

I wonder what other gender differences there’d be for gen 5-9 if they never stopped doing that.
