IDK much about alcohol, but I can picture him drinking beer cans when alone, but drinking fancy, expensive wines when at social events.

When I ask to join TR, he's likely a bit taken aback, and questions my reasonings for joining TR, wondering if I'm truly interested in joining or if I'm just trying to sabotage him (since I'd likely be a law-abiding citizen prior to joining him). He'd also wonder if I have the skills needed to succeed in TR (both in and out of battle). After convincing him that I'm not going to betray him (and potentially proving myself in battle), he'd likely let me join, not wanting to pass up on a potentially useful tool.
What would really throw him off though is when he asks why I'm joining TR and what I'm hoping to get in return. Do I want money? Strong Pokémon? I'd say that all I want is him, his affection. He'd be caught off guard, doubtful, and a little flustered (though doing his best to hide it), but after a bit of back and forth, he'd decide that it's a worthwhile exchange for a loyal tool. He'd still insist on paying me the same as any other TR member though, because he refuses to let himself be indebted to someone else.
Alternatively, if I said I was joining any other team, he'd give me one chance to take it back before nuking me out of existence kek.
