>the AI professorThe story is that the professor of the region, obsessed with the explorer's journal, traveled into the abyssal crater of Area Zero, seeking the fantastic Pokemon depicted in the journal. But they didn't find the Pokemon there, so they researched the crystals found there and created a time machine using them, able to bring those fantastic Pokemon in to the current time. They went mad and their assistants all abandoned them, so they built a robotic copy of themselves as their new assistant, which is more like "they thought about building it and it appeared one day". The professor was killed by a Paradox Pokemon attack at one of the research stations, leaving only the AI professor to manage the facilities alone. The AI professor recognizes the danger of the time machine, and wants the player to train to be strong enough to defeat its defenses and shut it down before Area Zero gets overrun with invasive Paradox Pokemon and they spill out to the rest of Paldea.
>If you believe an alternate version of the real professorTowards the end of the DLC you venture into the deepest depths of Area Zero and awaken Terapagos, who is slumbering there. Upon taking Terapagos to an Area Zero region in a distant land Terapagos creates a strange temporal field, summoning the real professor from the past, who identifies they're now in an alternate timeline upon meeting you.
Also the legendary Paradox Pokemon only appear in Area Zero after the time machine was shut down for good.
