Are you for real? Nintendo alters patents mid court case to try and keep their case going against Palword. They are the worst jews. Showdown would be seen as "stealing" players from Champions. They'll leave it while it's beneficial to them, but the second they want Showdown's player base on board to use their and only their game then they will come for them. The fact it'll be on mobile cements it.

And what's Showdown? A free alternative that's just as good (if not better) than Champions, and even allows for formats that aren't available and likely aren't condoned by the Pokemon franchise.

That’s only really a problem for older meta games with few players to start with, and Champions isn’t going to offer any alternatives to those anyway. The most popular meta games like OU would run perfectly fine with just a fraction of the player base. Showdown wasn’t always a thing and earlier simulators required much more from the user and were still thriving.

"Free to start" essentially means that you are free to play it but you'll hit a point after a few hours where you have to put an unreasonable amount of time grinding the game just to progress at all to discourage you from playing it without buying a pack that either gets rid of a bunch of limitations (Energy usually) or adds in some sort of items that hand you premium currency and items hand over fist to actually let you progress at a reasonable rate. Sometimes it also means that you will hit a point where the game outright stops you and asks you for money like Mario Run I think? I think Mario Run was F2S.

The easiest example of this I can give you is The Battle Cats' physical copies on Switch. If you play the digital Japanese version on Switch (It's F2P) it's basically the mobile version with less content with all the same systems and limitations. If you buy the Asian copy (Physical or digital) as soon as you start the game it recognizes you are playing the paid version of the game and grants you daily paid currency for just starting the game up. In addition to this there's a bunch of minigames that happen every time you clear three stages (Any of them, can even be the lowest energy ones) that grant you tickets for the standard gacha indefinitely so you can just farm those for maxing out the standard cat upgrades and getting even more paid currency.

You can even see in this link how they speak of things like Pushmo and Pokemon Rumble World in how I described it.
You're right that they use it as a catch-all term for F2P games they're either promoting or advocating for, but in general (At least with the 3DS), it meant roughly what I said for a good while and that was how many of their F2P games were presented to people. You could typically either buy some shortcut that gave you paid content permanently to ignore their artificial grind barrier or you'd only get access to certain levels. I remember the one Kirby game that was boss rushes gave you a tree that infinitely spawned paid currency apples which dealt with every issue a F2P player would have.

You can transfer from HOME. Old competitive mons will be usable. EVs are slightly changed, each "point" is an increment of 8 EVs, the max for each stat is what would currently be 256 EVs, basically allowing for 256/256/16 spreads.

Showdown has always been terrible on mobile and is under some kind of agreement with TPC (they run literally use game music, sprites and run ads lmfao) Can't help but infer that they were allowed to exist as long as they didn't make an app themselves

Showdown is a free, open source project with no monetary profit where you can simulate Pokemon battles after making teams from scratch in no time at all, as opposed to catching and raising them in a game.
