I actually thought this as a kid when my only exposure to Gen I as a whole was a poster of the 151 and Gastly does come right after Cloyster.

No one took a harder hit with the Sp.Def split from gen 1 to 2 than Tangela and it never recovered. Would 80 Sp.Def have been so wrong? I love Tangela and still to this day Im mad about this.

Yeah they did an absolute shit job with the conversion. There were a number of Pokémon that got completely shafted

Come to think... maybe they originally made that decision with the expectation Tangela,would be getting a evolution and pre-evolution that gen, which it also lost prior to release.

I wonder if they cut its spdef to lower its bst because they had vague ideas for a tangela evo in gen 2 but decided to shelve it? it seems like the type of thing they do
