Johto is the region that’s gone the longest with out a game so not only is it the region Pokémon fans are least attached to it’s the one that makes an easy scapegoat whenever people trying to minimize the flaws in new games want to deflect. Also there was a bit of a drought in Johto Pokémon in general getting things from BW-SwSh (especially compare to KANTOOOOOOOOO and Hoeen Pokemon) making it even easier for normie to point and laugh at Gen2 Pokemon, though ever since PLA though Johto is getting almost above average attention.
