Calyrex Shadow Rider (CSR), a fusion of Calyrex and Spectrier, two legendaries from Gen 8's DLC. It is very powerful in doubles, but a lot of people call it cancer for this reason.
Funnily enough, I don't think any of the "cancer" mons won (rilla/roar/urshifu/lando/amoonguss/smeargle/both calyrex forms) except Flutter Mane, and both Zamazenta and Miraidon lost.
Brute Bonnet is similar to Amoonguss but was still a surprise.

That's what I thought at first, but Clefairy is still way weaker and slower, so aren't you better off using Clefable anyway? I'm guessing there's a very specific playstyle I don't know about in this case

Friend guard and eviolite make Clefairy the better option.
If Clefable got friend guard then people would use it a lot, like 20% usage probably.

Unfortunately this is Pokemon's meta. Doesn't quite feel as creative as other games. It's a shame that Karenfagging isn't something people do at tournaments, but when you're playing to win you have to use what's good.

Giovanni sort of did this because he never changed his team for all if Reg I beyond perhaps item and ev changes.
He learned his team and just stomped the shit out of everyone by playing better.

That only happened because it was a low power format where Pachirisu was the best thing that could learn follow me.

For as much as this board is contrarian about megas, the 2014 and 2018 metas were really pretty good and you saw quite a variety of pokemon among the top 8 at worlds.
For some reason people only remember 2015 where Japan solved the meta and the two double restricted years 2016/2019.

Brute Bonnet just happens to work perfectly on Koraidon teams. It pressure Caly Ice and Shadow to tera.
In this context it's a bulkier Amoonguss that actually puts offensive pressure on the field.

The best metas have tended to be the ones where legendaries and even sub-legendaries are allowed.
It gives many pokemon room to breathe and slows the game down so that niche team picks still have a chance.
