This is the main reason I hate the modern exp system. So many early and mid game pokemon evolve within 15 levels of obtaining it and even without grinding you end up there in an hour or 2. Mashing B works but it's annoying to have to keep doing that, you basically never get an everstone before the 3rd gym let alone more than one, and even if you don't personally care for the earlier stages themselves (though I wonder how much of that sentiment comes from never keeping those earlier stages long enough to form an attachment, especially middle stages) there's still the fact that earlier stages learn level up moves earlier than later stages. Everything else is just a balance issue. They could ramp up the level curve to match how much exp you get so you won't end up over leveled playing normally, scale back the friendship bonuses so party members don't end up borderline hax from just collecting levels without ever being used, or better yet make bosses challenging enough that those bonuses and thus a strong bond with your pokemon become more necessary as the game progresses.
