The subtle Ashnime references, Hawlucha's pose before it mega evolves imitating Ash's when it ENTERed in it's debut episode, Gen 7 in particular had quite a big of Ash stuff and it just so happened to be the anime arc where he wins a league
It's still not outright canon to the main series in the strictest sense, but there's a clear encroachment of ashnime stuff that happened in the more recent games that has left it's mark. I wonder if the new girl's show will have the same?
