>>58208687I'd say Galar as whole had (emphasis, HAD) plenty of potential, it just doesn't live up to it and squanders it all.
GIANT Skeleton Dragon Legendary that once shrouded the island in Darkness? Potential.
Two Founding Heroes that defeated that were lost to History and their existence covered up? Potential.
Arthurian Legend Wolf Legendaries? Potential.
The Actual Spectator Sports Focus on the League for once? Potential
An old Ex-Champion testing you, and giving you what is implied to be the child of his deceased Ace Pokémon as you go up against a Underhanded Rival for the right? Potential.
A Legendary actually getting to be a character and task you with helping it regain its power? Potential.
It is the imbalanced and sloppy execution that smashes that all away with nothingburgers. And for Eternatus it also does not help that he followed up on Necrozma while taking way too many ques from it making it basically just "Discount Necrozma In Galar". Terrapagos basically tries the same schtick but is a Cutemon and got relegated to Post-Game DLC.
Eternatus is the ugly middle child of "I came from a Meteor, bearing gimmicks" family.
