Akari is one those Japanese tropes associated with familial connections, namely when two members of the same nuclear family share looks to an almost carbon-copy degree (Like Cogita, Cyllene and Sanqua similarly share looks with Cynthia, Cyrus and Karen). In Akari's case, Dawn is her (great) granddaughter. There's also the issue of Game Freak writing L: Z-A AFTER the events of XY, but not actually bothering to re-tread the story of XY (hence why they have a new pair of MC's to choose from, each with their own gender-coded love interest).
