He's a retard at battling, but the motherfucker can jump 100+ feet into the air and land with no issue, throw massive logs that weigh 1000+ lbs like a fucking javelin, and shrug off flamethrowers, lightning bolts, and most other forms of damage that could take out an elephant.
Atem is getting dogged in a fist fight against Ash. He has no chance. But his summons put him in a clearly advantageous position. It's like how Luffy would clobber the shit out of Reed Richards in a fist fight, but then Mr. Fantastic just pulls out his Ultimate Nullifier and erases Luffy from existence.
