I really love Kanto a lot. I also really love all its Pokemon, trainers, the Rocket Gang, Sylph Co., Mr Fuji, Karakara(Cubone) and its mother, Mewtwo, etc.

Kanto is so cool and awesome.

Dont bother, the plebians will never understand old school pokemon. The mystery, the adventure of possibility that echoed in your mind thinking about all the possible pokemon new Regions out there. Nowadays its too tryhard and gimmicky to be taken seriously.

The franchise has long lost the cool factor and slight mysterious edge that made it appealing to boys like myself at the time, the death knell was when they introduced FAIRY as a type, instead of calling it something masculine like MYSTIC.

Point being they have long shifted away from their core demographic that made them a phenomenon to be more girl friendly and due to outright confident laziness and rugged incompetence they know nobody cares as long as they keep churning out games.

Moment, all the jank included that everyone shits on the games now what was made it even more great back then. You dont have cool shit like S.S Anne Truck, Lavender Town or Missingno anymore. The closest I can think of is the Ghost Chick that only says "you are not the one". Furthermore you didnt have the modern smogon fanbase that cares about Max IV/EV builds of OU tier doubles format whatever the fuck. I get Battles are the meat and potatoes but Pokemon was and is always at its absolute best when its a Monster Collecting game forst and foremost. The thrill of seeking out new and unique potentially powerful monsters and exploring to find them in strange areas nooks and crannies & the proccess of struggle and growth that comes with it, its the soul of Pokemon. Red and Blue had it in spades and is the catalyst. Black and White was well off to copy it shamelessly to great success. Every game since has just been a checklist of misplaced "appeal to everyone" ideas. Pokemon was great when it had preverted old men looking outside Erikas Gym. When you saw people mourning over their dead pokemon. When a Human was stuck as a pokemon and you had to help him with his pokemon human polymerization machine. When you battled Gangsters over Lab Grown pokemon by a Kanto conglomerate. Just the wierdness of it all. There still is a fond strangeness about Kanto that will never be replicated, and the sour grapes from many a later era pokefan is a study in and of itself. Plus the Orginal 151 is too iconic to ever be topped, no other generation has a complete Pokedex of unique but grounded and cool looking monsters like Kanto does.

TL;DR - they hate us cause they aint us

As much as RBY may be very unpolished, the original Kanto is just very neatly designed for a small jrpg made for a damn OG Gameboy. Original Gamefreak despite lack of their technical prowess were actually good game designers.

That's your onion and I respect it. Honestly, I get being annoyed with the constant Kanto pandering, even as someone who's first game was red I too get really upset when charizard gets the spotlight in a region that's not his for the 325st time when there's far more deserving mons at this point, but Kanto really was great in its own way. Not my favorite but also not the worst by far.

It's because they didn't have a freak in charge yet that was obsessed with making rushed games with frustrating mechanics to Capitalize on Pokemon as an IP instead of making good ones. Masuda basically forced a co-dependent relationship with Nintendo where only GAME FREAK can make OFFICIAL Pokemon games but they needed to do so in short periods of time resulting in games that are only an intentional fraction of what they could be. Kanto will never be this because the original Gen I games were designed to be fully fleshed out experiences from the start while even as early as GS you'd need Gen I to be even to fill the National Dex, let alone RS which needed fucking Kanto remakes and still couldn't even bother to include them all

What a coincidence, I just started a playthrough of Yellow on an old cartridge and Gameboy of mine. I've never actually beaten it. I moved the few old Pokemon I had onto Pokemon Stadium 2. I also kind of want to get one of those USB devices that let me back up my Pokemon save file to my computer, but I don't know what the best one is. Also I've played this game a dozen times over the years and never realized you can swap the moves around with the select button.

I've enjoyed walking to certain locations, setting down a folding chair, and playing for a bit.

The mid-game portion with Cerulean City and the underground tunnels is designed badly. There's no way you're supposed to know to go through the broken-in house to be able to leave the city, and use the underground tunnels to get to Vermilion. There's no way that anyone knows that you're supposed to go through the nugget bridge trial and get to Bill's house to get the S.S. Anne ticket and then board the Anne to get Cut so you can go through the dark rock tunnel that leads to Lavender Town which you have to skip through using the underground tunnel to get to Cerulean., then you have to just know that there's a Rocket HQ behind the poster in the Game Corner, then you have to go through that to get the Silph Scope so you can climb the tower in Lavender Town which gives you a flute to wake up the sleeping Snorlaxes and also buy water from Celadon for the guard posts around Saffron, THEN and only then can you actually go through Kanto normally.
