It was alright. If the battle frontier was there and we got a Delta Emerald, it'd be the best iteration of Gen 3, but GF hates quality (and money) so...

I like many of the additions, but all the shit they removed on top of the games being pisseasy made them unplayable. No matter how many Pokemon you rotate all the battles are too easy. Going from ORAS to SM was a breath of fresh air.

It's an absolute dogshit remake of RS.
It's an amazing Gen 6 title, like it's so much better than XY in every single way it's impressive. Part of that is being based on a better game both structurally and conceptually with the many multiplayer ideas RS pioneered, but a huge part of it is using the connectivity of the Gen 6 engine and 3DS itself in much better ways. StreetPass is fucking wasted in XY, and that shit was a huge part of the 3DS and the major precursor in DQ9's tag mode stole the Pokemon game's lunch money so I dunno why that was less of a priority compared to flash games they were going to shut down because we all saw what they did to the Dream World just a generation prior.

Just because everything that came after are worse doesn't mean this was good.

but yeah, over the years I've looked back and realized that maybe I judged it too harshly, gen 7 was a huge reality check on how shit things can get.

It has some weird fucking quirks that stick out even if you ignore the frontier shit. Why are the Granite Cave depths locked off until Mauville? Why is New Mauville locked off until you beat Groudon/Kyogre? Why remove the Winona skip?

RS were terrible games, Emerald was the one saving grace of Hoenn and they couldn't even be bothered to remake that game. Then they do the same thing and remake the DP kusoge instead of Platinum. Without the Battle Frontier, gens 3 and 4 are just as bad as any other post-gen 1 nugen slop gen.

I rather enjoyed it. I was in kindergarten and will never forget the day my dad came home with my gameboy color and pokemon gold.
Eventually I’d get sapphire and I rather enjoyed that as well. I think ORAS was far superior than RSE.

I replayed HGSS a few months back and it definitely feels worse than I remember. The gen 4 engine makes everything drag, and they decided to slap a mandatory legendary story for no real reason.
