>>58222989It's not about some Pokémon "not mattering", you're still looking at it like from a purely gameplay perspective. They might not be staples for most teams and people won't clamor for their return, but having "background" Pokémon contributes to making a region feel new and fresh.
There's plenty of Pokémon /vp/ would consider unecessary, redundant, shitmons but even if I'm not enthusiastic about them, I always associate them with their debut games, some Pokémon exist just to deepen the feeling that you're in a new, unexplored region, rather than for longevity, and that's fine.
