>>58228837Honestly i think people are too harsh on Trevor, him being a milestone for how much Dex you should have done during the story was a good idea, the issue is that that idea just gets lost because 4 "Friendly" Rivals means they all end up Halfbaked.
Except Shauna who is less a rival and more a Love Interest/"Friend Interest". Yeah, he is a shitty rival, but at least he tried something that related to Gameplay (Catching/Collecting for Dex), Some rivals dip their ties in it, but usually only for like the first couple of routes with the "Let's see how many Pokémon you caught!" line to see if you got their tutorial.
Honestly they SHOULD make a Dex focused Rival again who just copes with having better Dex progress if losing and you haven't done your homework to meet the threshold and grudgingly giving the Dex Milestone Rewards if you meet them. who then parks somewhere static at end game so you can get the stuff you "missed" at your own leisure then and do rematches.
