That gimmick actually did better in singles where players didn't have to pretend with GF that all megas were equally interesting and viable. Some were just retarded though, not arguing that.
Dynamaxes were fucking stupid, the BIGGER design with those stupid low poly clouds was so fucking ugly, every gameplay mechanic was cancer in both formats. Hitting through protects, full power flying moves raising speed, gigantamax starters with those gay overpowered moves. It all sucked, it was all ugly, it was never fun. The worst generation gimmick. Also I love how that pic sucks off BIG pikachu with the stylized lightning bolt, but the same poster would shit on mega manectric.
Z-moves were kind of like megas but with more variety and even harder to account for, also hitting through protect. The only well designed and fun gimmick after all of these years has been terastallization, and I'm sad to see it go away for more fucking megas that could have been new standard mons.
