>>58230236Gen 6 is balanced so that if you have EXP share enabled, you slightly outscale your opponents and it becomes fairly easy, but with EXP share off, your opens very slightly outscale you through normal play, and you get a difficulty more in line with previous games.
It was essentially a difficulty selector and it functioned fairly well at that (while allowing you to turn it back on in postgame to quickly get EXP on competitive teams), but then they removed it so we're stuck with the difficulty we've got now.
