Every single mon in gen 5 is a specific new idea that went through a previous gen filter except some very few exceptions. Think about klink vs magnemite lines, trubbish vs grimer lines, roggenrola vs geodude likes, woobat vs zubat lines (I mean come on on this one you see), bouffalant and tauros, jellicent is tentacruel, swanna is pelipper, munna and drowzee, blitzle and ponyta, scraggy and croagunk, zoroark and lucario, gothitelle/reuniclus and gardevoir/alakazam (latter is a bit of a stretch but you get it), alomomola and luvdisc, ferrothorn and forretress, beartic and ursaring, haxorus and aggron (even with their middle stages showing up frequently in victory road), the genies referencing the kanto birds and imo the lake trio, genesect and mewtwo, you could list more obviously. They're not just archetypal, they're directly referencing.
