Literally my first 2 thoughts on seeing that shit was A) Game Freak FINASLLY found a way to unfuck Raichu, by copying Pikachu again and B) Finally a reason to use that shiny Raichu I got in AZ.

Because that ruins the iconic 151 branding they love to use all the time in marketing and merchandising.
Even if there's mons they hate, they objectively can't get rid of anyone from Gen 1, as it's no longer the OG151.

Pichu was effectively the Gen 2 Pikachu clone, before they were a thing, while doubling as a baby evolution of Pikachu, so it got a lot of mileage, getting to show up as the Pichu Brothers in the anime, and even getting to be playable as the Gen 2 rep in Smash

Raichu just kind of exists, just to exist at this point

Reminder that Pichu was the final nail in Raichu's coffin. It was ALWAYS meant to be a mere middle stage to Gorochu, the real meat of the line, but Pichu existing due to a combination of "we want the girls to buy plushies UWU" and "we want the poor animators and merch makers to have an easier time making cartoons and products of our monsters ^_^" meant that Gorochu was now permanently scrapped from the equation since they weren't about to break their "a Pokemon can only evolve twice" rule.

The only chance Gorochu has at this point is if they ever give Pikachu a split evolution from Raichu

I'm waiting for the day Game Freak goes full mask off and just create Pikachu 2, literally just Pikachu, but with better stats

I also wouldn't be surprised they make a gimmick revolved around non-fully evolved Pokemon at some point, to make them as strong as their fully evolved counterparts, and Pikachu becomes the face of it

They did make Alolan Raichu who's just normal Raichu but better but they also had base Raichu's Gen 7 entry say it's rare because people don't like it compared to Pikachu.

Wonder if they're hiding a third mega Raichu for the Alolan form.

The original 151 pokedex is like a bible to them. No one can touch or modify it or it's not Pokemon franchise. If I ever want to change pokedex, Nidoran, for example should be merged like others gender difference pokemons.

The way you say it makes it sound like Raichu is just the Wario to Pikachu's Mario or Sonic and Shadow. It's supposed to be a cool rivalry then where raichu is the badass powerhouse and pikachu is the underdog.
