Anyone else hate when the stories involve time travel and multiverses or parallel universes etc.

I just like the simple go on Pokemon Adventure stories. Why is GameFreak pushing stories so hard the last couple of gens.

Gen 3 has floating vehicles.
The series has always had a scifi element. It's not even new.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years we started getting smaller, simpler games that are more reminiscent of the original series but are like predominantly existing mons with some regional forms with only a few new mons, maybe reusing box legendaries with new pairings (like idk, groudon and xerneas being paired up, or zekrom and solgaleo. Unexpected pairings) and they get a new straight-up regional form that reinvents them to just being the local legendaries instead of bigger ones you see elsewhere. Remixed starters like pla too, probably, or who knows maybe some non-traditional starter options, like a dark/psychic/fighting trio like people have asked for for years. Could take some random 2-stages of that type and give it a new evo to make it more starter material, even. Imagine your starter options being Drowzee, Poochyena, and Mienfoo, and they all get a new evo (could even give them fire/water/grass as a secondary typing lmao)

this is usually cool because it's actually reasonable enough to suspend your disbelief about travelling to the past and future, things that definitely exist; and if it's well written without dumb shit like multiple timelines it allows you to play around with causality, which can lead to really fun stories

these however are almost always dumb as fuck because there's no evidence such a thing is grounded in reality literally at all, and it almost always winds up being asspull-laden wish-fulfillment shit - especialy when it's like a mirror world where all the same things exist. it's basically always completely stupid and immersion breaking. at least gen 7 gets it sort of right by framing ultra space as being wormholes to exotic spaces that are markedly different from our world and might not even be outside the known universe, but it still steps into stupid territory with shit like guzzlord in ruined hau'oli city and the USUM wormholes with normal ass pokémon inside. at least most of the explicitly alt-universe stuff in those games takes the relatively more interesting approach of being totally alien.

multiverses is a crutch to let hack writers do whatever they want in a story without caring about consistency while making consumers feel that they aren't wasting their time because a story isn't "canon" and is actually a part of some grand epic because for most people, a story is about being in the know about the latest happenings and understanding references rather than themes, characters, and their conflicts.
any plot hole or retcon can be explained away with a hand wave. kill off beloved characters freely endlessly with the multiverse, bring back old characters from another series, hype up the next battle by bringing villains from alternate universes who won in their world.
what-if scenarios can be well made but most of the time it just devolves into cheap fan service that actively devalues a story by turning characters with thematic elements into mascots for nostalgia and hype moments

gen 7 is just all over the place and I didn't finish it, gen 8 is basically gen 6 again I guess, gen 9 is absolutely insane and you surely must admit. This is a well-known phenomenon called "spectacle creep" and toning down the stakes would be a great help in ensuring palatability of future games.

Like could you stop I just want to catch pokemon. I don't want to hear about your family drama either. I'm fine with a couple legendaries having time travel or dimensional powers but it's kind of like how arceus' reality bending in that one event is cool from a lore perspective but not something I would like to see in the main story.

My favorite story is about a lonely man having his mid-life crisis and learning to live again. He doesn't get powers, doesn't go back in time to redo it, he just awkwardly reaches out to his peers. That's all. It's an utterly simple premise with effective execution.
You can have all the fancy plot points you want, it doesn't make for a good story. Good writing does. What pokemon is missing typically.

It's just an example of how a simple premise isn't inherently bad. However low or high the stakes are, realistic or fantastical it is, what's important is the way its actually executed.
It's probably even easier to mess up stories involving high stakes and fantastical elements, since now you have to account for other potential logical scenarios that may act as a plot hole and your protagonist can't take their time if there's grand consequences. I think I remember Masuda saying something like that too, how it doesn't make sense for the player to be doing whimsical things like the gym challenge when there's world terror going on.
